Modernizing Design at SureCost

In 2022, I joined SureCost to design and present a new dashboard interface and design system to key stakeholders, showcasing how my designs aligned to company goals.

I spearheaded design at SureCost, facilitated cross-functional collaboration, and worked closely with engineers and product managers.

As the first design hire at SureCost, I was in charge of encouraging design thinking, growing the company’s design culture, uplifting best practices, and advocating for the user.

Background

My favorite way to describe SureCost is "Costco for pharmacies".

SureCost is a powerful software that enables small to medium-size pharmices to save money on their inventory through price watching, inventory management, and in-app coupons.

However, the company hasn't updated their web app's visuals since the early 2010s, causing the app to face an issue of being incredibly dated in an evolving market.

My Role

I led the design overhaul of SureCost, successfully conceptualizing and presenting a pitch deck to the CEO, my product manager, and head of engineering with my ideas and visual overhaul of the platform. Additionally, I delivered designs for features on the current product to meet FDA compliance and provide new affordances for users.

The version being showcased here was from February 2023.

The same shortcuts you know with all of the data you want to see.

Designing for SureCost provided a unique use case: most of our daily users were pharmacists, some of whom only interact with the webpage via keyboard. Additionally, I had to design an interface that still had space for the preexisting web layout but allows for new affordances such as badge alerts, a smoother login/logout user flow, and a smarter help wizard.

See more by doing less.

Previously, users had to navigate through SureCost’s large information architecture to find urgent task. With this new dashboard, users can take a glance at the dashboard on mobile or web and know what needs to be done for the day, whether it’s refilling prescriptions or meeting FDA compliance guidelines.

Bringing SureCost into the modern era

SureCost needed a new wardrobe, having not updated its visual language since the early 2010s. By following brand guidelines set by marketing but still looking to innovate with fresh colors, I created a tokenized design system that would help create the backbone for my visual redesign.
